Today I’m going to do a review for you on Superdrug Colour Effects wash-in, wash-out hair colour in Chocolate Brown. I used it before I got my highlights. I liked the idea of a wash-in, wash-out hair colour because I was a bit sick looking at my accidental ombre, but I didn’t want to damage my hair by using a proper hair dye. (LOL, famous last words, I then went and bleached it because I am me).
I presumed this would work just fine in my hair because my hair colour was lighter than the intended colour, but it really didn’t make any noticeable difference. It darkened my ombre by a fraction. My mother noticed, but nobody else did. This was cheap, only €1.49 if I recall correctly, so you’re basically getting what you paid for.
I was disappointed though, because my friend Martina said it worked really well and lasted for quite a while on her hair. Oh well.
I’m just after finishing my bottle of Soap and Glory Glad Hair Day Intensive Conditioner for Full, Frizzy or Fried Hair, and I have to say I’m not bowled over by it.
It doesn’t smell good, it has a slightly vinegary smell – I made a grave mistake in not smelling it before buying it because I’m obsessed with smells. The Boots and Soap and Glory websites claim it smells good, but it really doesn’t, at all. It just feels cheap and at nearly €7 I expected more.
I still finished the whole bottle, but I won’t be repurchasing. It seemed to linger in my hair even after rinsing it well, and gave it a kind of sticky-but-dry feeling, actually leading to more frizz, which it’s supposed to prevent. In fact, frizz isn’t even a problem I usually have to deal with! My hair sure is full and fried, but not so frizzy :)
It made no attributable difference to the softness of my hair. There was nothing terribly wrong with it, but it just didn’t feel any different from your average supermarket conditioner, and it smelled nasty.
The packaging, of course, was incredible, but the product was only okay, at a push. One out of five stars.
Has anybody else tried this conditioner? Do you agree with me that it’s crap? Or do you swear by it? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I loved this stuff, I thought it was excellent. It smelled really clean and fresh and had a thick enough consistency (but it’s definitely not a balm all the same). It got my skin really clean, and over the weeks that I was using it I noticed a huge difference in my skin. My skin used to be dehydrated, scaly and flaky, and now it’s smooth and hydrated. I finished the whole bottle. Five out of five stars.
In fact, I loved it so much that I repurchased it, sort of. I went out looking for the Kaeso Beauty products, assuming they would be prohibitively expensive, only to discover that their cleansers were only €8. I got the Kaeso Beauty Hydrating Balm Mint, Cotton and Aloe Vera Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin to replace my last one, and I have to say I love it too.
To be honest, I don’t notice any difference at all between the two cleansers, but I’m still very happy. They’re so affordable and you’re getting a fantastic product for your money. It makes my skin look and feel so much better, so I’m giving it 5 stars.
PS: My aunt also gave me the Kaeso Beauty Calming White Nettle, Mulberry and Pomegranate Moisturiser for Sensitive Skin, and I feel the exact same way about it.
My next review for you is Original Mane ‘n Tail and Body Shampoo. I’m a bit obsessed with hair products, so I’m always trying new shampoos and conditioners and so on. Mane ‘n Tail sounds a bit mad because apparently you can use it on both horses and humans but at €6.95 I doubt you’d want to be using it on a horse. But who knows? I’m not a horse expert.
I got this because I read on some long hair forums that it’s pretty good, in particular that it helps to grow long, thick hair, and I really like it so far. I thought that with the ‘and body’ bit it was volumising too, but this seems to just be the original formula.
It smells nice but the smell isn’t very strong. The shampoo is quite thick and not runny, but it doesn’t foam up a great deal. I like a lot of foam but I know it’s not good for my hair so I don’t mind this.
My hair is thick so some shampoos struggle to get all the grease out but this cleans my hair very effectively and it remains clean for a few days. However, it manages to not dry it out at the ends, so really it does exactly what I want! I also have quite a dry, itchy scalp which hasn’t been bothering me since I started using Mane ‘n Tail!
So far I’d give this five out of five stars, I’m very happy and I’ll probably report back when I finish the bottle and see how it fares over a long period of time. Bonus points because the makers, ironically, don’t test on animals!
Next up for a review is my Tangle Teezer. I have been wanting one of these forever, in fact I added one to my Amazon wishlist way back in 2011! I finally got around to buying one about two and a half weeks ago.
So far, I’m pretty impressed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hairbrush before that doesn’t have seams on the bristles. I’m obsessed with growing my hair until it will grow no more, and I bleached it for years so taking the best care of it is really important to me now.
My hair is quite thick, and the bristles are long enough to get all the way down to my scalp, even at the nape of my neck. This is something I was worried about because the bristles didn’t look very long, but it’s actually fine.
Something I didn’t expect, was that the Tangle Teezer gets extremely dirty, really fast! After just seven days, it was full of lint. But, I Googled it, and I discovered that you can actually put them in the dishwasher!
I was a little apprehensive but I reasoned that I couldn’t be hand-washing it every single week so I took a risk. I put it in the top shelf because it’s plastic and it turned out great! I’ll definitely be doing it again.
It does feel gentle and I haven’t felt like my hair was being ripped when I use it, even if it’s a bit knotty. I’ll give it 4/5 stars for now, major bonus points for being dish-washerable, but I’m going to review this again in a few months or maybe a year and report on whether I feel it’s made a difference to my hair.
